The
late Bluey Francis was an integral figure in the instigation of The
Australian Bush Balladeers Association and Vice President from its
inception in 2000 for many years.
A recording artist, and songwriter himself, Bluey left us with great
respect of his contribution to the bush ballad industry.
He was a great supporter of upcoming talent, so a move was put forward
by The Australian Bush Balladeers Association committee in 2023 to
introduce the Bluey Francis Memorial Award for Musical Excellence
to honour Bluey’s support of traditional music artists.
The award recognises outstanding musical achievement within the realm
of Australian bush ballad and traditional country music.
The 2024 recipient was Anthony Baxter, and the 2025
recipient was Alice Benfer.

The recipient is chosen by the ABBA Committee each year, and the public
are very welcome to submit a name or names for consideration.
