WINNER! Julie Perandes!
Born in Brisbane in 1987, Julie grew up
listening to recordings of Shorty Ranger, Stan
Coster. Slim Dusty and many others. At the age of
six Julie won her first trophy. Since that first
festival in 1994 Julie has won a variety of
trophies at festivals she has attended. She has
a strong interest in and loves performing the
bush ballad style music.
Julie was a top 5 finalist in the 2005 Star
Quest and felt honored to be chosen as the first
recipient of the A.B.B.A. Camerata scholarship in
2005. Currently a member of the Golden Wattle
Country music Club Julie performs regularly in
her local area.

The 2006 Bush Balladeer Star Quest was held
at the
Tamworth West Diggers Club (Kable Avenue)
on Tuesday the 24th January 2006 at 1pm.
This prestigious event not only
featured some of Australia's premier Bush Ballad
artists competing for the 2006 Star Quest
winner's title, but also guest appearances
by
2005 Star Quest
winner Jeff Gibson, and junior A.B.B.A. members;
Trent Holder and Kate Botfield.
Comperes were Neville Anderson and Anita
Ree. Backing band was the Matt Manning Country Band.

1. JAY PODGER
Born in to a musical family in the country music
rich region of South Eastern New South Wales,
Jay started playing music at the age of eight.
He is an accomplished vocalist and musician
playing guitar, accordion, piano and other
various instruments. Jay has preformed at many
country music festivals, including Mildura,
Merimbula and Rosewood. Jay was a finalist in
the New South Wales Champion of Champions 2004
of the Steel City C.M.C and Club Macquarie.
Winner of the Leukaemia Foundation
Representative Award.
Jay was in the top 5 at the 2005 Balladeers Star
Quest.

PATRICIA CRUZADO
Patricia has spent time working in out back Queensland teaching at Longreach
and Winton schools.
After a short stint working in Penrith, she
headed back to the bush to work
in Dubbo as a journalist for the Daily Liberal.
Her love for performing music has seen Patricia
appearing at many community functions including
the Nymagee,
Cooee (Gilgandra) and Winton Outback Festivals.
In 2003 Patricia
was a top 10 finalist in the Music Oz Awards-Paka.

SARAH McMONAGLE
Sarah first took the stage when she was eight
years old and has never looked back. Born into a
musical family Sarah grew up listening to John
Williamson and Norma O’Hara Murphy, so it’s no
wonder Sarah loves to write and sing about
Australia. Performing throughout Southeast
Queensland in numerous country music festivals
has helped Sarah grow into the fine young
entertainer she is today.

CHRIS STROHFELD
Born on the 18th of Febuary 1970 Chris was
raised on a Dairy Farm and Cattle Property at
Ravensborne, QLD and grew up listening to his
dad Brian Strohfeld singing country music at
cabaret shows and private functions. Chris
started writing and singing songs at the age of
15. One in particular was about the late great
Stan Coster whom Chris admired greatly. “Stan
was an inspiration to me, and he told me so much
about the music game and the wonderful people in
this industry”. Chris has shared the stage with
some of Australia’s best, Chad Morgan, Johnny
Greenwood, the Brian Howard Show at the Oasis
Hotel at Tamworth and Graham Doubleday’s show at
the West Tamworth Bowls Club

WALLY SANDERSON
Wally Sanderson lived and worked in the bush and
owned a property in Central Queensland for 35
years. In that time Wally did his share of
droving and campdrafting. Since retiring to live
in Currinmundi on the Sunshine coast, Wally has
joined the Maroochy River Country Music Club and
has written 5 songs about his life in the bush.
Wally enjoys writing and singing bush ballads
and it gives him great pleasure, to perform bush
ballads at concerts and country music festivals.
